High House residency, Norfolk

Norfolk: 8 May-18th June, 2024.

Walking, thinking, drawing. Walking. Thinking. Learning this place. Its chalks and sands and soils. The warmth of its brick. It's oaks and alders and willows. The hares! Trout lazing in the current of the Nar, the clarity of her water shocking to my silt-addled river sense. A threatened chalk stream, she flows from a deep marine past towards an uncertain future, and yet, right here, her recent restoration is a thin thread of hope that spools in meadows rich with watermint. I’m looking for a language. One of colour, time and place. One that is filled with the traces of many lives held; of stories told. Tangled voices dancing on the water. Remember this…we did this…
